• coordinate people’s schedules better, make sure people can work together at the same time

Pumpkin Soup!!!

The coziest autumn rainy-night soup. Ever.

Made by our wonderful Nora and Elizabeth!

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon unsalted butter
½ tablespoon flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon powdered ginger
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Nutmeg, to taste

dried thyme

chili flakes
3 cups water (or less)
¾ cup milk mixed with yogurt
3 cups pureed cooked pumpkin

onions and garlic

Directions:

1. Sauteé onions and garlic in olive oil until transparent.

2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and stir with a wooden spoon until thick and light golden, 1 to 2 minutes. Add sugar, salt, ginger, pepper, and nutmeg; stir to incorporate.

3. Add water and cream; bring to a boil over high heat, whisking constantly. Add pumpkin puree and whisk until smooth.

4. Heat until warmed through, adjust seasonings, and serve.

*Also, it's super-delicious served with sweet cornbread.

Join us for a lecture by Rosina Bierbaum, Dean of the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan, on Tuesday, September 28 from 6:00-7:30 PM on the topic of "The Changing Climate for Development".

The event is free and open to the public.

Today's enormous development challenges are complicated by the reality of climate change - the two are inextricably linked and together demand immediate attention. Climate change threatens all countries, but particularly developing ones. Estimates are that developing countries would bear some 75-80% of the costs of anticipated damage caused by the changing climate. Developing countries simply cannot afford to ignore climate change, nor can they focus on adaptation alone. But developed countries must make financing and technologies available. Action to reduce vulnerability and lay the groundwork for a transition to low-carbon growth paths is imperative for both developed and developing countries. This talk will explore how to better help people cope with new or worsened risks. Land and water management must be adapted to better protect a threatened natural environment, while at the same time meeting the need to feed an expanding and more prosperous population. Energy systems must be transformed to meet increasing demand while drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The World Development Report 2010 is an urgent call for action: a climate-smart world is within reach if we act now, act together, and act differently.

-rinse out things to put in bin, no need to wash items

-don’t let it become a mountain

-make a list of things that are recyclable

Dishes lateness- don’t do them too late at night, close down kitchen on the earlier side

-cook between 6-7:30, eat dinner earlier

Containers:

-sterilize containers as chore, dry very thoroughly

-1/2 people do washing on monday, 2 do putting bulk items in them on Tuesday

-Moon Festival: announce events beforehand, let people cooking know

-take bucket out, dump it out, turn compost w/ pitchfork until it’s covered with dirt
